Guidelines for Student Competitive Papers
1. The paper must be submitted in one of the following contemporary issue areas:
Food Safety, Nutrition and Health
Environmental Stewardship
Small Farms and Rural Development
Enabling Technologies
2. The paper must have the following sections:
a. Title page with authors,
institution, issue area, phone number, e-mail address
b. Abstract
c. Introduction
d. Materials and methods
e. Results and Discussion
f. Conclusions
g. Literature Cited
h. Tables and/or Figures
3. The paper must conform to the following specifications:
a. Title page + 12 pages (this
includes tables, figures, references, everything)
b. Use only 12 pt letter type for text, with
1-inch margins
c. Single space Abstract and Literature Cited;
all other sections must be double spaced
d. Use only one side of paper.
4. Eligibility
a. The original research must have been primarily conducted at an 1890 institution,
primarily led by a
scientist or student at that 1890 institution.
b. The research can not already be published or "in press".
5. The original and three (3) copies must be postmarked by December 1, 1999 (faxed submissions will not be accepted) and sent as an institutional submission by the Research Director to:
