Guidelines for Submitting Concurrent Scientist Papers

Due to the emphasis on the general session Science Panels, the competitive scientist papers have been eliminated. All scientists will have the opportunity to present a competitive or noncompetitive poster. Friday afternoon has been reserved for Concurrent Scientist Paper Sessions on the four Contemporary Issues. There is only time for twelve papers concerning each issue. The ARD has proposed that scientists who feel that their research is cutting edge and worthy of being in this select group must submit a two page executive summary of their work to be presented. The ARD will select twelve scientists from the candidates in each Issue Area to make oral presentations. Scientists not selected will be encouraged to make poster presentations. Selected papers will be included in the Proceedings.

1. Paper Format - Submissions are limited to two pages on standard 8.5 x 11" paper (portrait) with 1" margins on all sides. Character fonts should be 12 point type and single spaced. Do not include a title page or use the back side of a sheet. Only the first two pages will be accepted.

2. Heading and Title - The Issue Area must be typed in the upper right corner. The first letter of each word in the title is capitalized. In multi-authored abstracts, the name of presenter must be followed by an asterisk (*). Use first names or initials before last names. List department, institution, and mailing address. See example below.

3. Abstract - A 250 word abstract should follow the heading and title.

4. Figures and Tables - Figures and tables must be included in the body of the text, within the two-page limit. They should be clearly readable and uncluttered.

5. Submission - Each author must submit a hard paper copy of the Concurrent Scientist Paper and the Abstract Form signed by the Research Director, plus either a disk copy or e-mail copy of each abstract and paper. The signed Form and disk or e-mail copies must be received by December 1, 1999. Faxed submissions will not be accepted. Mail Abstract Forms and disks to:

6. Selection - The Symposium Committee will review all Concurrent Scientist paper submissions. Twelve papers in each of the four Issue Areas will be selected for presentation in the 15 minute oral format. All authors will be notified by February 1, 2000 whether their paper was selected for oral presentation. Papers not accepted for oral presentation will be presented in the poster format.
