ASSOCIATI0N ACTIVITIES AND MINUTES OF 2007 FALL MEETING

The KNGA Board of Directors met on October 27, 2007 prior to the general fall meeting. The treasurer’s report was distributed to the board. The KNGA has a total membership of 204 people.  $200 was allocated for buying nuts for the KNGA meetings. John Brittain will coordinate this effort. The pecan planting at Sloughs Wildlife Refuge was discussed. The planting has a 60% survival, although the surviving trees are not in growing very well. The planting at the school in Henderson has done very well. Kirk Pomper discussed the KNGA newsletter. He would like to add drawings of nuts on the front page of the newsletter as part of the KNGA logo. More copies of the KNGA color brochure are needed. We need about 400 copies, which will cost $300-400. The board authorized the printing of 400 copies of the brochure. Kirk is interested in starting a variety trial at KSU of new hazelnut varieties and the board agreed that KNGA would write a letter of support for Kirk’s trial at Kentucky State University. Hugh Ligon will talk to Henderson city officials about planting pecans in the city park. The KNGA spring meeting will be held on the second Saturday in April (April 12) if a facility is available. The Northern Nut Growers Association would like to hold their meeting in Kentucky in 2010. KSU is planning a pawpaw meeting for the first Saturday of September 2008 (September 6). Carl Ray suggested that each KNGA member get one friend to join in order to help increase membership.
